What began as an act of outreach for those facing hardship quickly evolved into something bigger.
Sweet and Elegant Delights, the Charlotte-area bakery owned by Tasha C. Boone, has introduced a deeply meaningful initiative aimed at supporting individuals and families within the Firethorne and south Charlotte community.
"It Was Laid on My Heart"
Inspired by a personal calling, Boone shared that the idea came during a time when many neighbors were feeling the pinch. The initiative was designed to reach those who may have been affected by financial hardship or had their benefits disrupted.
But it didn't stop there. The program was expanded so that anyone who wanted or needed a little extra kindness could receive it — no questions asked.
How "My Heart Goes Out to You" Works
Known as "My Heart Goes Out to You," the program provides participants with a complimentary handcrafted heart-shaped cake in the flavor of their choice, along with a free $50 grocery gift card.
All anyone has to do is scan the QR code and select their preferred cake flavor. They then receive an email with available pickup dates, times and location.
A Business Built on Community
Sweet and Elegant Delights specializes in custom cakes and desserts for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other celebrations. But for Boone, the business has always been about more than baking — it's about connection.
The "My Heart Goes Out to You" initiative is the latest expression of that philosophy, turning a small business into a vehicle for genuine community care.
